HIGHLIGHTS OF LIONISM IN KALIDA
1957-58 BINGO was our first major fundraiser. Remember Bingo at Lion Bud Well's skating rink? It may not have always been a fundraiser, but it had a positive influence on club cohesiveness.
1959 LAND PURCHASE behind HIGH SCHOOL. Lions Virgil and Norm signed for the loan for what is now our community park.
PARK LAND improvement has been an on-going project since the initial purchase in 1959. The KALIDA LIONS have made the park their number one project.
EASTER FLOWERS sales have been a very successful money raiser over the years. Unfortunately, those involved beginning with Lion Virgil, for some reason didn't enjoy the Easter holiday.
DANCES have also been significant money raisers over the years thanks to the efforts and dedication of Lion Herk and Lion Al.
MINSTREL SHOWS that we sponsored were great. They were excellent examples of hard work, surfacing talent, cooperation and dedication.
STAG PARTIES have played a significant part in fund raising.
FUN TIMES - basketball and softball games.
In the early 1960's, the Lions and Firemen formed what has proven to be a very successful partnership in sponsoring the PIONEER DAYS celebration. PDG John, Lion Virgil, Lion Len and many other Lions have made the PIONEER DAYS CELEBRATION AND PARADE a great attraction, anticipated and attended by many each year.
THE METHODIST CHURCH was purchased by the Lions to later become the home for the PUTNAM COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND COUNTY MUSEUM. The Lions later furnished the foundation for the Log Cabin and helped in the purchase of trees for the museum.
VILLAGE STREET SIGNS were purchased twice by the Kalida Lions.
SENIOR CITIZEN MEALS are an annual event sponsored by the Lions.
HALLOWEEN activities and parade sponsored by the Lions has made Halloween safer and more enjoyable for many.
CHRISTMAS for the Needy and Shut-Ins has been an annual event that has touched many people.
SINCE 1982, the Kalida Lions have installed new restrooms, additional playground equipment, new picnic tables, tennis courts, and upgraded facilities in the community park. Recently, a new softball/baseball diamond and soccer field have been added.
THE CORNER PROPERTY adjoining the park was purchased from Joe Clementz.
STREET LIGHTS for the uptown renovation were purchased by our club. Additional lights were purchased at a later date to continue the progression along Broad Street and North Street.
CONTRIBUTIONS to all Northwest, Ohio and Lions International projects have been and continue to be substantial over the years.
CONTRIBUTIONS to our Local School activities, to County Social Organizations, and to Tragedy Victims in our community area have had a positive effect on many lives.
EYE GLASSES collection have helped many in Third World countries.
THE KALIDA LIONS chartered the GLANDORF LIONS in 1979 and the CONTINENTAL LIONS in 1981.
LION JOHN PHILLIPS was elected Jr. District Governor in 1984. He went on to become the first District Governor from Kalida, serving during the 1986-87 year.
THE CLUB has grown over the years in a very positive way with an excellent blend of youth, middle age, and veteran members. With GOD'S GUIDANCE AND BLESSING the club will continue to live up to the Lions motto: "WE SERVE"
